Megan Fitzpatrick HL English 2 Casady May 20, 2019 Reflection Essay Number One, Reflection: I am personally proud of my “Offense is Rank” one pager. I am proud of this because I can really see my language improving from years ago, and my understanding of how to write an actual essay grow. There are many things wrong with it of course, such as it’s devices being too vague, and not being long enough, and ideas not being gone in depth enough. However, I can still see that I paid attention and enjoyed what I was writing about, and personal it makes me proud to see that my hard work paid off; even if it was only slightly. Number Two, Growth: In the last four years, I have grown in taking more difficult classes. In each year, except most recent, I took difficult math classes for me. And although I did not get as much of a high grade as I wished, as I got a B in my accel precalculus class and a B in my calc A class, I would say I am proud of myself for those grades. Those classes were very difficult, and I fought tooth and nail to get those grades, so I see growth in myself . Every other class, I either did not match my expectations for myself or stayed rather average. Number Three, Opportunity: I see an opportunity for growth in my english skills, mainly writing as that is not entirely me strong suit. My best grades were not in my english classes, and that saddens me slightly as I do enjoy reading and looking into the purpose of why it was written. I see opportunity for growth because of what major I am heading into, history. And in history, to have a better understanding of the time and what was happening, not better place to look than to what they decided to write down. Some of my favorite books we read these past years are about odd things, such as Hamlet which I love for the sheer chaotic factor of the story. The opportunity that I see is that I do love these classic tales, and I can see myself happily writing about them, and I personally believe that that joy can get me fairly far. Number Four, Preparation: Great Oak High School has prepared me for my future by showing me the beauty in difference and growth. Our school is large, and more diverse than most, but it’s the students that attend and the staff that run the show that are what make this place better. And while not all the students or the staff are pleasant people, they introduced me to the differences in life. I will not get along with every person, and not every person will like or appreciate me or my work, and I will not get hung up over those people. This is very different to the younger version of myself when she was a little freshman, a freshman who made mistakes and grew up into the me I am now; and I am sure that I will not stop making mistakes, but I just hope that I can learn and grow from them. Thanks to Great Oak, I was able to make some amazing friends and realize that some people just are not compatible with me, and I really appreciate that I was taught this lesson before I went off to college.
